Canada Vanessa Morgan has built a career as an actress, starring in popular teen dramas and expanding into film and reality television.
The actress collaborated with swimwear brand Cupshe for a 31-piece collection featuring women's and children's styles. This 'Mommy and Me' collection is named The River.
The brand partnered with Vanessa Morgan to launch “My Scar My Story,” a campaign that aims to empower individuals to embrace their scars. Morgan shared her C-section scar from childbirth as part of the initiative.
Vanessa Morgan Mziray was born on March 23, 1992, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Her mother is Scottish and her father is Tanzanian. She began singing at age six, performing at community events and telethons. In 1999, Morgan won the Junior Miss America pageant and placed first vocalist at the National Date Festival. The following year, she won first place in the African-American Vocal Competition. She was spotted by a Hollywood agent in 1999 and received a scholarship to a Hollywood acting academy. Morgan graduated from Colonel By Secondary School in 2010 and pursued studies in philosophy at Queen’s University.
Morgan made her acting debut in the VH1 film “A Diva’s Christmas Carol” in 2000, playing a younger version of the lead character. She gained recognition for her role as Amanda Pierce in the Canadian teen comedy series “The Latest Buzz” from 2007 to 2010, for which she also performed the theme song. In 2010, she appeared in the Disney Channel film “Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars” as Marion Hawthorne and played Sarah in “My Babysitter’s a Vampire,” a role she reprised for the television series adaptation from 2011 to 2012. She continued her television work with a recurring role in season 2 of the Disney Channel series “A.N.T. Farm” in 2012, appearing in four episodes, and made guest appearances on “Degrassi: The Next Generation” in 2013. In 2013, Morgan competed on the first season of “The Amazing Race Canada” with her sister, Celina Mziray, finishing in third place.
From 2014 to 2015, Morgan had a recurring role as Beatrix “Bird” Castro in the MTV series “Finding Carter.” In 2017, she joined the main cast of the fantasy drama series “The Shannara Chronicles” as Lyria for its second season. Later that year, she began her role as Toni Topaz in The CW’s teen drama series “Riverdale.” Initially a recurring character, Morgan was promoted to a series regular for the show’s third season in 2018, a role she maintained until 2023. Her recent work includes a main role as Max Mitchell in the Canadian TV series “Wild Cards,” which premiered in 2024.
