About

Adrian Chiles was born on March 21, 1967, in Quinton, Birmingham, England. His early life saw him move to Hagley, Worcestershire, at age four. Chiles attended Haybridge High School and briefly worked in his father’s scaffolding business before pursuing higher education. He earned a degree in English literature from the University of London, studying at Westfield College. After university, he pursued journalism at Cardiff and began his career as a sports reporter for the News of the World, laying the groundwork for his future in media.

Chiles joined the BBC for work experience on ‘Business Breakfast’ and quickly progressed. His journalistic background led him to present ‘Financial World Tonight’ for Radio 4 and later front the BBC Two business show ‘Working Lunch’ (1994–2007), where he gained significant public recognition. He expanded his portfolio by creating and fronting various programs, including ‘So What Do You Do All Day?’ and ‘Asian Millionaires’ for BBC Two, and ‘Royal Millions’ for BBC One. His versatility also saw him present the spin-off series ‘The Apprentice: You’re Fired!’ from 2006 to 2009. He became a co-presenter of the popular BBC One early-evening magazine program ‘The One Show’ (2007–2010) alongside Christine Lampard. Throughout this period, he also hosted ‘Match of the Day 2’ (2004–2010), cementing his status as a key sports broadcaster.

In 2010, Chiles made a significant move to ITV, signing a four-year contract. He became the chief presenter for ITV’s football coverage from 2010 until 2015. Concurrently, he co-presented ITV’s new breakfast television program ‘Daybreak’ (2010–2011) with Christine Lampard. Following his departure from ITV in 2015, Chiles returned to the BBC, primarily focusing on radio work and various documentaries. He currently works for BBC Radio 5 Live, hosting ‘Chiles on Friday’ and contributing to other programs. Chiles has also ventured into writing, authoring columns for The Guardian since 2019 and publishing ‘The Good Drinker: How I Learned to Love Drinking Less’ in 2022.
