Aimee Lou Wood was born on February 3, 1994, in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England, and grew up in Bramhall. She pursued her acting education at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2017 with a BA Degree in Acting. During her time at RADA, Wood participated in various productions, portraying ‘Margaret’ in “Scuttlers” and ‘Goody’ in “Vinegar Tom.” Her skills extended to stage combat, stand-up comedy, and singing soprano. Her early career also included stage work in “Mary Stuart” (2016-2017) at the Almeida Theatre and touring the UK with “People, Places and Things” as Laura (2017).
Wood made her screen debut in 2019 as Aimee Gibbs in the Netflix comedy-drama series “Sex Education.” She initially auditioned for a different role but eventually landed the part of Aimee Gibbs, a central character alongside Asa Butterfield, Emma Mackey, and Gillian Anderson. This role brought her significant recognition and critical acclaim, culminating in a British Academy Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance in 2021. She continued to build her filmography with roles in “The Electrical Life of Louis Wain” (2021) as Claire Wain and a lead role opposite Bill Nighy in “Living” (2022) as Margaret Harris, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
