Ajinkya Rahane was born on June 6, 1988, in Ashwi KD, Maharashtra. His early cricket training began at a small coaching camp in Dombivli due to limited resources, where he perfected his skills on a matting wicket. From the age of 17, he received coaching from former India batsman Pravin Amre, contributing to his development as a right-handed batter and occasional right-arm off-spin bowler.
Rahane made his first-class debut at 19 for Mumbai in September 2007, scoring a century. His consistent performance, including 1089 runs in his second Ranji season (2008–09), was instrumental in Mumbai’s 38th title win. He excelled in domestic cricket, scoring 265 not-out against Hyderabad in the 2009–10 season and 152 in the 2011 Irani Trophy, which led to his selection for India’s Test squad. His international debut came in a Twenty20 International against England in August 2011, followed by his Test debut in March 2013 against Australia.
Over his career, Rahane has achieved several significant milestones. He captained India to victory in the 2020-21 Border–Gavaskar Trophy in Australia and led Mumbai to win the Ranji Trophy in the 2023-24 season. His IPL career includes notable stints with the Rajasthan Royals, where he became a leading run-scorer in 2012 with an unbeaten 103, and later with Chennai Super Kings, contributing to their 2023 IPL title. In March 2025, Rahane was named captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
