Alex Lowe was born on January 15, 1968, in Brent, Middlesex, England, UK. He began his acting career early, making his television debut in 1981 in Thames Television’s ‘Theatre Box’. On stage, he played Wharton in “Another Country” at the Queen’s Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London, and in 1983, he appeared as Young Edmond Bertram in BBC 1’s ‘Mansfield Park’. His early career established a foundation in both serious drama and character comedy. A notable milestone occurred in 1990 when he won a First at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for his performance in ‘The Hypochondriac’. Lowe’s work has spanned across various media, demonstrating his adaptability and range as a performer and writer.

Lowe’s career progressed with significant roles in both film and television. He appeared in three films directed by Kenneth Branagh: ‘Peter’s Friends’ (1992) as Paul, ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ (1993) as The Messenger, and ‘Frankenstein’ (1994) as a Ships Crew. On television, he gained widespread recognition for creating and performing characters such as Barry from Watford on Steve Wright’s BBC Radio 2 show and later on Iain Lee’s radio programs, and Clinton Baptiste, who originated in ‘Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights’. The character of Barry from Watford expanded into a successful podcast, ‘The Angelos and Barry Show’, alongside Dan Renton Skinner, and a BBC Radio 4 series, ‘Barry’s Lunch Club’.
