About

Alexandra Patricia Morgan, born on July 2, 1989, in San Dimas, California, developed an early passion for soccer. Her career began in youth leagues, eventually leading her to play for the California Golden Bears at the University of California, Berkeley. In 2011, she was the first overall pick in the WPS Draft by the Western New York Flash, immediately making an impact by helping the team win the league championship. She later joined the Portland Thorns FC in 2013, winning the inaugural NWSL Championship. Her journey has been marked by consistency and leadership, becoming a prominent figure in women’s soccer.

Morgan’s international career with the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) is extensive and decorated, beginning with her first cap in 2010. She was the youngest player on the national team at the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup and played a pivotal role in the team’s gold medal victory at the 2012 London Olympics, scoring a memorable 123rd-minute goal against Canada. Her career includes two FIFA Women’s World Cup titles in 2015 and 2019, where she earned the Silver Boot. She has achieved numerous personal accolades, including U.S. Soccer’s Female Athlete of the Year twice and multiple CONCACAF Player of the Year awards.

In recent years, Morgan continued to perform at a high level with the San Diego Wave FC, winning the NWSL Golden Boot in 2022. She expanded her influence off the field by co-founding Togethxr, a media company, and authoring a book series for young readers, ‘The Kicks.’ On September 5, 2024, she announced her retirement from professional soccer, concluding a career celebrated for its achievements and impact on the sport. Her retirement coincided with the announcement of her second pregnancy, marking a new chapter in her life while leaving a lasting legacy as one of soccer’s most iconic figures.
