Alex Winter is an English-American actor and filmmaker, known for his performances in popular films and his extensive work directing documentaries and television series. After starring as Bill S. Preston, Esq., alongside Keanu Reeves in the internationally recognized film Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure in 1989, Alex Winter established himself as a prominent actor and filmmaker. His early career included significant stage work, with performances on Broadway in productions such as The King and I and Peter Pan, as well as Close of Play at the Manhattan Theatre Club.
During this period, he also acted in the thriller Grand Piano in 2013. His documentary work continued with the release of the short documentary Relatively Free in 2016 and Trump’s Lobby in 2017. He further solidified his reputation in investigative filmmaking by directing The Panama Papers in 2018 and Trust Machine: The Story of Blockchain in the same year, both examining critical global issues. Winter continued to direct compelling documentaries, including the biographical Zappa in 2020, offering an intimate look at the legendary musician’s life.
In 2024, Winter produced and co-starred in Destroy All Neighbors. Looking ahead, 2025 marks a busy year for Winter, who is set to produce, direct, and star in the upcoming feature film Adulthood, and will return to Broadway, co-starring with Keanu Reeves in a highly anticipated production of Waiting For Godot.
