About

Born on July 16, 1991, in Phoenix, Arizona, Alexandra Shipp pursued her acting career by moving to Los Angeles at the age of 17. Her early career included a minor role in the 2009 film “Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel” and a more significant role as KT Rush in Nickelodeon’s teen drama “House of Anubis” in 2013. In 2014, Shipp gained notable attention for portraying Aaliyah in the Lifetime biopic “Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B,” where her singing and dancing talents were recognized. The same year, she also starred as Dani Raymond in VH1’s “Drumline: A New Beat.”

Shipp’s career progressed with a role in the Oscar-nominated film “Straight Outta Compton” (2015), playing Kimberly Woodruff. A significant turning point came with her casting as a younger ‘Storm’ in Twentieth Century Fox’s “X-Men: Apocalypse” (2016), a role she reprised in “X-Men: Dark Phoenix” (2019). Throughout 2018 and 2019, she took on diverse roles, including co-starring with Nick Robinson in Fox 2000’s “Love, Simon,” appearing in the psychological thriller “Spinning Man,” and featuring in “A Dog’s Way Home,” “Shaft,” and the comedy “Jexi.” Her versatility extends to her musical talents, as she is also a songwriter, pianist, and guitar player.

More recently, Alexandra Shipp further expanded her filmography with roles in “Endless” (2020), where she also served as an executive producer, and “Silk Road” (2021). Another key milestone was her performance as Susan in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s film adaptation of “tick, tick… BOOM!” (2021), where she showcased her vocal abilities. In 2023, she joined the star-studded cast of Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” as Writer Barbie, a film that earned a Golden Globe. Upcoming projects include the revenge thriller “Violent Ends” (2025) and the horror film “Forbidden Fruits,” demonstrating her continued involvement in varied and prominent productions.
