Ameerah Falzon-Ojo is a popular young British actress currently best known for her starring roles as Jas Salford in the CBBC sitcom, So Awkward, and the voice of Frida in Netflix’s animated series, Hilda and its spin-off film, Hilda and the Mountain King. She is also an established model and has worked with a diverse range of major brands, including McDonald’s, Sky, Oxford University Press, and Sony.
Falzon-Ojo was born in London in 2002 and began attending drama school when she was just five years old. When she was nine, she was cast in a leading role in a major revival of South Pacific at the Barbican Theatre. She also went on to appear in notable productions of other classic musicals, such as The King & I and Annie Jr. She made her first appearance on the BBC, in a CBeebies show called Mister Maker, when she was four; in 2015, she won a major role, playing Jasmine ‘Jas’ Salford in a CBBC sitcom called So Awkward. The show, which follows the lives of a group of secondary school pupils, became a favourite with young viewers, and Falzon-Ojo starred in the first five series.
In 2018, Falzon-Ojo’s career became international when she began voicing Freda in Hilda, an animated supernatural adventure series that won several Emmy and Annie Awards in America. After two successful series, the show was developed into a feature-length film, which gave Falzon-Ojo her movie debut (albeit from a vocal booth). With a third series in production, her acting and voice acting careers are certainly heading in the right direction.
