Amin Joseph

Amin Joseph was born in Queens, New York City, on April 26, 1980, and raised in Harlem, New York City. He graduated from Rice High School and Howard University. His early career included an internship at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, where he developed his skills. Joseph made his film debut in 2004 in the Sean Baker and Shih-Ching Tsou co-directed drama ‘Take Out’. His early roles also included appearances in independent films, leading to his television debut in 2007 in the crime drama series ‘The Shield’. He also appeared as an M.P. in Frank Darabont’s film ‘The Mist’ in 2007 and played a pirate leader in ‘The Expendables’ in 2010.

Joseph continued to establish his career with a lead role in the 2013 Cinemax series ‘Zane’s The Jump Off’, where he portrayed Dmitri Vance. He later took on the role of Frankie in the 2017 comedy ‘Baywatch’ and Kevin Gaines in the 2018 crime film ‘City of Lies’. A significant turning point in his career came in 2017 when he joined the cast of the FX crime drama ‘Snowfall’, playing the iconic character Jerome Saint. He remained a main cast member until the show’s conclusion in 2023. In 2023, he returned to Sundance with two films in competition, ‘To Live and Die and Live,’ where he served as lead actor and producer, and the short film ‘We Were Meant To.’ Joseph also made his powerful directorial debut during the final season of ‘Snowfall’.

Beyond acting, Joseph is a director and producer. His production company, Dark Energy Pictures, focuses on action, horror, and sci-fi content spanning digital, television, and feature films. An example of their work is the international action thriller ‘Call Me King’. Joseph is also involved in philanthropic efforts, including The Awareness Movement, a grassroots organization in Los Angeles dedicated to fostering positive community-law enforcement dialogue and empowering urban voters. He also volunteers in Los Angeles schools, teaching African American classic playwrights through scene study classes.
