Amir Arison was born on March 24, 1978, in St. Louis, Missouri. He spent his formative years in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, from the age of five. During his time at Pine Crest School, Arison received the Drama Club Award in the 6th grade and the Founder’s Council Fine Arts Award in Acting during his senior year. He also performed with the professional improv group ComedySportz in Fort Lauderdale. At 16, he earned his SAG card with a debut in a Sonic Drive-In commercial. Arison pursued higher education at Columbia University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.
Arison’s career spans over two decades, with a significant part of it dedicated to his role as Aram Mojtabai on NBC’s “The Blacklist,” appearing in 193 episodes from 2013 to 2023. Beyond acting, he has taken on roles as a producer and director. In 2016, he produced and directed the short film “Fortress,” written by Anna Ziegler. He also directed “Tati’s Fashion Show” for Angelight Films. His contributions to the entertainment industry and philanthropic efforts have been recognized with awards such as the MIFF’s Mendez Award in 2018 and the NY SJFF Pomegranate Award for Career Achievement in Acting in 2022. In 2023, he received the Theater World Award for his outstanding Broadway debut in “The Kite Runner” and an Emmy Award for hosting NBC/Telemundo’s Clear the Shelters Campaign, which facilitated over 161,000 animal adoptions.
Arison has consistently engaged with various arts and education programs, dedicating his time to teaching at organizations like Broadway Workshop, Broadway for All, and Urban Arts Partnership. He has also collaborated with YoungArts, United Arts Partnership, NBC director’s diversity showcase, Pace University, The Acting Collective, The Watson Institute, Hole-in-the-Wall-Gang-Camp, and Angelight Films.
