Amy Schneider, born on May 29, 1979, in Dayton, Ohio, is an American writer and game show contestant. Her interest in general knowledge was evident from a young age; in eighth grade, her classmates voted her “Most likely to appear on Jeopardy!”. She pursued higher education at the University of Dayton, graduating with a degree in Computer Science. Before her widespread recognition on television, Schneider co-hosted a podcast with her former wife, Kelly Anneken, from January 2012 to January 2021, titled ‘Up Yours, Downstairs!’, which focused on the television series ‘Downtown Abbey’.
Schneider rose to national prominence through her exceptional performance on the quiz show Jeopardy!, starting her winning streak on November 17, 2021. She achieved the second-longest win streak in the program’s history with 40 consecutive victories, a feat only surpassed by Ken Jennings. This remarkable run, which concluded on January 26, 2022, also made her the most successful woman and the most successful transgender contestant to compete on the show, accumulating over $1.3 million in regular-season play. Her strategic approach to the game, particularly in the Final Jeopardy! round where she correctly responded 30 out of 41 times, demonstrated her competitive acumen.
Following her regular-season success, Schneider continued to impress in competitive formats. She won the Tournament of Champions in November 2022, securing an additional $250,000 and becoming the first openly transgender person to both compete in and win the tournament. In January 2023, she participated in the inaugural Jeopardy! Masters, a new primetime spin-off featuring elite champions. Beyond game shows, Schneider embarked on a writing career, publishing her first book, “In the Form of a Question: The Joys and Rewards of a Curious Life,” in September 2023 with Simon & Schuster. She also testified before the Ohio House of Representatives in November 2022, speaking out against the “Save Adolescents From Experimentation (SAFE) Act” bill, which aimed to restrict gender-affirming care for minors. Her achievements earned her a GLAAD Special Recognition honor in January 2022.
