Federico Macheda

Born in Rome, Italy, on August 22, 1991, Federico Macheda began his football journey with local club Lazio’s youth team. His talent was recognized early, leading him to join Manchester United’s academy in 2007 at the age of 16. Macheda quickly made an impact, becoming the Under-18s’ top scorer in his first season. He signed his first professional contract with Manchester United on his 17th birthday in August 2008. His career turned a significant page in April 2009 when he made his first-team debut for Manchester United, scoring a crucial injury-time winner against Aston Villa, a moment that garnered significant attention. He followed this with another goal in his second appearance against Sunderland, contributing to a vital period for the club’s league title efforts.

Throughout his career, Macheda played for various clubs across different leagues, gaining diverse experience. After his time at Manchester United, which included several loan spells to clubs like Sampdoria, Queens Park Rangers, VfB Stuttgart, Doncaster Rovers, and Birmingham City, he moved to Cardiff City in 2014. He continued his playing career with Novara in Italy before making a significant move to Superleague Greece club Panathinaikos in 2018. During his tenure with Panathinaikos, he achieved notable goal-scoring milestones, including equalling his best single-season goal tally in 2020 and completing 100 appearances for the club.

Macheda’s journey highlights his adaptability and persistence across different football environments. He eventually moved to Ankaragücü in the Turkish Süper Lig in 2022, followed by a loan spell at APOEL in Cyprus. In 2024, he returned to Greece, joining Asteras Tripolis as a free agent. His career reflects a committed professional who has consistently sought opportunities to perform at a high level, contributing to multiple teams throughout his journey in European football.
