Andrea Riseborough is a critically-acclaimed actress: with around 50 acting credits, she’s received 20 awards and 19 additional nominations throughout her career. This includes the prestigious 2006 Ian Charleson Award for her performances in “Measure for Measure” and “Miss Julie” at the Theatre Royal.
Although Riseborough is a triple threat in theater, television, and film, she got her start on the stage. She spent many years as a member of the Young People’s Theatre and the National Youth Theatre. Upon graduation from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2005, Riseborough landed multiple roles at the Theatre Royal, and she even appeared in the London West End Production of Ivanov.
In some of her early movies, Riseborough acted alongside big names like Keira Knightley in Never Let Me Go and Jason Bateman in Disconnect, so it’s no wonder she moved onto blockbuster films like Birdman and the Oscar-winning film, Oblivion, where she appeared opposite of Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman. And when she played Emma Stone’s love interest in Battle of the Sexes, the Savannah Film Festival named her “Outstanding Supporting Actress.” Some other notable films include The Death of Stalin, Nocturnal Animals, and Nancy—for the latter, she also served as a producer.
As for television, Riseborough’s had prominent roles in shows like Bloodline, Party Animals, and ZeroZeroZero. Additionally, she was the featured star in an episode of the Netflix hit series, Black Mirror. One of her most memorable performances to date was playing the title role in Margaret Thatcher: The Long Walk to Finchley: not only did she receive her first BAFTA nomination for the role, but Sunday Times Magazine named her on the list of “Britain’s Finest Rising Stars.”
