About

Andrew Bynum was born on October 27, 1987, in Plainsboro Township, New Jersey. His parents divorced when he was one year old. He attended St. Joseph High School in Metuchen, New Jersey, during his junior and senior years, and West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North for part of his freshman year. He also attended Solebury School in Solebury, Pennsylvania, for the remainder of his freshman year and his sophomore year. In high school, Bynum was recognized as an All-American player, averaging significant points, rebounds, and blocks during his junior and senior seasons. He participated in the 2005 McDonald’s All-American game before deciding to forgo college and enter the NBA draft directly.

Bynum was selected as the 10th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2005 NBA draft, making him the youngest player ever to be drafted by an NBA team at age 17 years, 244 days. He made his NBA debut on November 2, 2005, just six days after his 18th birthday, becoming the youngest player to play in an NBA game. During his seven seasons with the Lakers, Bynum developed into a key player, contributing to two NBA championships in 2009 and 2010. His career with the Lakers culminated in a selection as an NBA All-Star and to the All-NBA Second Team in 2012, highlighting his athletic achievements and growth as a professional athlete.

Following his tenure with the Lakers, Bynum was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2012 as part of a significant four-team deal. However, he missed the entire 2012–13 season due to persistent knee problems. He later signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013, playing briefly before being traded to the Chicago Bulls, who subsequently waived him. Bynum concluded his NBA career with the Indiana Pacers in 2014, appearing in only two games before injuries again sidelined him. Throughout his career, Bynum demonstrated notable athletic ability, achieving personal bests in points, rebounds, and blocks, and maintaining a high field goal percentage.
