Andrew Shue

Andrew Shue was born on February 20, 1967, in Wilmington, Delaware. His mother, Anne Brewster, was a bank executive, and his father, James William Shue, was a lawyer and real estate developer. Shue attended Columbia High School in Maplewood, New Jersey, and later Dartmouth College, where he was a Regional All-America soccer player, graduating in 1989 with a B.A. in history. Following his graduation, he spent time in Zimbabwe, playing professional soccer for Bulawayo Highlanders while teaching high school math at Founders High School. During his tenure with the Highlanders, the team secured both the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League and CBZ Cup titles.

Shue transitioned into acting, gaining prominence in May 1992 after being cast as Billy Campbell in Aaron Spelling’s television series ‘Melrose Place.’ He remained with the show for six years, featuring in 191 episodes. During this period, he also expanded his acting credits to film, notably appearing as Cliff Riker in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1997 movie, ‘The Rainmaker,’ alongside Matt Damon and Claire Danes. His earlier, uncredited film appearances included roles in ‘The Karate Kid’ (1984), ‘Vision Quest’ (1985), ‘Adventures in Babysitting’ (1987), and ‘Cocktail’ (1988).

Beyond his acting career, Shue has made significant contributions as an entrepreneur. He co-founded Do Something, a global non-profit organization, and continues to serve on its board of directors. In 2006, he co-founded the social networking website CafeMom with his childhood friend Michael Sanchez, creating an online community for mothers. CafeMom later expanded to include other digital properties such as The Stir, Baby Name Wizard, and MamasLatinas. In 2007, Shue also co-produced and had a minor acting role in the feature film ‘Gracie,’ a tribute to his late brother, which also involved his sister Elisabeth Shue and brother-in-law Davis Guggenheim.
