Anirban Lahiri

Anirban Lahiri was born in Pune, India, on June 29, 1987. He began playing golf at the age of eight, introduced to the sport by his father, Dr. Tushar Lahiri, an armed forces physician and recreational golfer. His early exposure to golf courses ignited a passion that led him to competitive play, starting with the sub-junior Golf Tournament in Calcutta in 1998. Lahiri’s dedication to golf led him to move to Bengaluru in 2005 to train under coach Vijay Divecha. His amateur career included several wins on the national circuit and a team silver at the 2006 Doha Asian Games.

Lahiri turned professional in 2007 and quickly established himself on the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI), where he secured eleven wins and topped the Order of Merit in 2009. He joined the Asian Tour in 2008, achieving his first continental victory at the Panasonic Open in 2011 and a second at the SAIL-SBI Open in 2012. By March 2014, consistent performance, including two more Asian Tour wins at the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters and the Venetian Macau Open, propelled him into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking. A significant milestone occurred in February 2015 when he earned his first European Tour win at the Maybank Malaysian Open, followed by another victory at the Hero Indian Open. These successes led to his qualification for the 2015 Masters Tournament, where he made the cut and finished tied for 49th.

In August 2015, Lahiri achieved a career-best T5 finish at the PGA Championship, marking the highest finish by an Indian professional golfer in a major and pushing him to 38th in the world rankings. He was also selected for the 2015 Presidents Cup, becoming the first Indian player to receive this honor. After joining the PGA Tour, he recorded his best PGA Tour finish with a T2 at the 2017 Memorial Tournament and represented India in the 2016 and 2020 Olympic Games. In March 2022, Lahiri finished second at The Players Championship, securing a prize of $2,180,000. In August 2022, he joined LIV Golf, where he has since achieved multiple runner-up finishes, including at the LIV Golf Invitational Boston and LIV Golf Andalucía.
