Anna Konkle

Anna Konkle was born on April 7, 1987, in Randolph, Vermont. Her family later moved to Scituate, Massachusetts, where she attended public schools. She pursued her higher education at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, initially studying musical theater before transitioning to the Experimental Theater Wing. During her junior year, she participated in an international experimental theater program in Amsterdam, where she met Maya Erskine, who would become her creative partner and co-creator of “PEN15.”

Konkle’s early career involved appearances in student films and experimental theater. She took on small roles in various television shows, including “New Girl,” “Shameless,” and “Ramy.” A significant step in her career was from 2015 to 2017 when she joined the main cast of “Rosewood” as Tara “TMI” Milly Izikoff, appearing in 44 episodes. This period built her experience in television acting.

In 2019, Konkle co-created, co-starred, and served as an executive producer for the Hulu original TV comedy series “PEN15,” alongside Maya Erskine and Sam Zvibleman. In the show, Konkle and Erskine portrayed 13-year-old semi-fictional versions of themselves as adults. The series garnered widespread critical acclaim, earning Konkle two Primetime Emmy Award nominations: one for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2019 and another for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2021. “PEN15” received a Gotham Award for Breakthrough Series and additional nominations for two WGA Awards and a Critics Choice Award. Konkle continues to expand her work as an actress, writer, and director, with upcoming projects including “Close Personal Friends” and “Murderbot” in 2025. She also welcomed her daughter, Essie Wunderle Anfanger, with Alex Anfanger in early 2021.
