Annie Potts

Annie Potts launched her career with a Golden Globe Award nomination for her impactful film debut in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s 1978 comedy Corvette Summer alongside Mark Hamill. Building on this early recognition, she went on to secure a Genie Award for Best Performance by a Foreign Actress for her role in the 1982 drama Heartaches. Her career accelerated significantly with her iconic portrayal of Janine Melnitz in Ivan Reitman’s seminal 1984 film Ghostbusters, a character she would reprise in the commercially successful Ghostbusters II (1989). Potts further solidified her presence in television with her acclaimed role as Mary Jo Shively in the long-running CBS sitcom Designing Women, starring in 163 episodes from 1986 to 1993.

She has also reprised her memorable role as Janine Melnitz in the most recent installments of the Ghostbusters franchise, Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024), reinforcing her enduring appeal and consistent presence in major studio productions across film and television.
