Anushka Sharma was born on May 1, 1988, in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, to Colonel Ajay Kumar Sharma, an army officer, and Ashima Sharma, a homemaker. Her upbringing as a military brat in Bangalore influenced her disciplined approach to her career. Sharma initially pursued a modeling career after graduating from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, before transitioning to acting. She made her runway debut at Lakme Fashion Week in 2007 for Wendell Rodricks and later worked on campaigns for brands such as Silk & Shine and Whisper. Although she had no strong aspirations for films at first, she began auditioning during her modeling career.
Her acting debut came in 2008 with Aditya Chopra’s film “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” opposite Shahrukh Khan, a commercial success that earned her Filmfare Award nominations for Best Actress and Best Female Debut. She continued to gain recognition for her roles in films like “Band Baaja Baaraat” (2010), for which she received another Filmfare nomination, and “Jab Tak Hai Jaan” (2012), earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress. Sharma expanded her career into film production by launching Clean Slate Filmz in 2013, producing films such as “NH10” (2015) where she also played the lead role, and the critically acclaimed series “Paatal Lok” (2020).
Throughout her career, Sharma has been noted for her versatility and commitment to challenging roles. Her highest-grossing films include “PK” (2014) and “Sultan” (2016). She has also actively supported various social causes, including gender equality and animal rights, and has been recognized as one of India’s most influential and highest-paid actresses. In 2022, she stepped down from her producing role at Clean Slate Filmz to focus on acting.
