April Ryan

April Ryan is a distinguished White House Correspondent, author, and political analyst, recognized for her extensive coverage of five presidential administrations. After serving as White House Correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks from January 1997 through November 2020, April Ryan established herself as the longest-serving Black woman in the press corps, providing coverage to AURN’s nearly 300 radio affiliates. During this extensive tenure, she reported on five presidential administrations, conducting exclusive one-on-one interviews with prominent figures including Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, George W. Bush, and Hillary Clinton.

Ryan has also received honorary doctorates from Morgan State University (2017), Claflin University, and Goucher College. Ryan further expanded her influence as a political analyst for CNN, joining the network in 2017. Her insightful commentary on issues concerning minorities and her consistent pursuit of factual information solidified her position as a prominent voice in political journalism. Her expertise has led to features in prestigious publications such as Essence, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and Elle, complementing her own blog, ‘Fabric of America,’ which focuses on minority issues.

A committed member of the National Press Club, Ryan also served on the board of the White House Correspondents’ Association, demonstrating her leadership within the industry. Most recently, April Ryan joined MSNBC as a political contributor in 2023, continuing to offer her seasoned perspective on national politics. This appointment follows her induction as an honorary member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority in July 2019, further underscoring her broad recognition and influence.
