The legendary musical artist Al Hasan Naqiyy, who was born Arlandis Hinton, is better known by his stage name B.G. Knocc Out. He is a West Coast rapper and songwriter most famous for collaborating with N.W.A’s Eazy-E on the 1993 single, Real Muthaphuckkin G’s, and for his solo work Eazy-E’s Protege, and Blocc Boyz.
Born and raised in Compton, California, Hinton and his older half-brother, Andre Wicker, became Crips gang members, and were affiliated with the Nutty Blocc Compton Crips set. Local rapper, and member of the legendary N.W.A. outfit, Eazy-E eventually discovered the brothers, and saw them signed to Ruthless Records. As B.G. Knocc Out and Dresta respectively, Hinton and Wicker appeared on the Eazy-E’s 1993 multi-platinum EP, It’s On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa, and on the single Real Muthaphukkin G’s (which was renamed as Real Compton City G’s in order to get MTV and radio airplay). Then in August 1995 B.G. Knocc Out and Dresta released their acclaimed first studio album, Real Brothas.
Hinton continued to record music as B.G. Knocc Out, but in 1998 was sentenced to ten-twelve years in prison for gang-related attempted murder. He converted to Islam in prison, changed his name to Al Hasan Naqiyy, and was eventually released in August 2006. Since then he has rebuilt his music career, going on to release nine additional albums, including 2009’s Prince of Compton, 2011’s Eazy-E’s Protege, and 2015’s Blocc Boyz.
