Spencer Grammer

Spencer Karen Grammer was born in Los Angeles, California, on October 9, 1983. She is the daughter of actor Kelsey Grammer and Doreen Alderman. Grammer attended Marymount Manhattan College in New York City and later graduated from Columbia University School of the Arts in 2023 with an MFA in directing. Her early career included an uncredited appearance on “Cheers,” where her father was a prominent cast member. Over the years, Grammer has established herself through a variety of roles in television and film, demonstrating her versatility as an actress.

Grammer gained notable recognition for her lead role as Casey Cartwright in the ABC Family college comedy-drama series “Greek,” which ran from 2007 to 2011. This role involved portraying a character navigating college life within the Greek system fraternities and sororities. Following her work on “Greek,” she continued to pursue acting roles across different genres. In 2013, she starred opposite Blair Underwood in “Ironside,” a remake of a 1960s television series. That same year marked a significant turning point in her career when she began her long-standing role as the voice of Summer Smith in the Adult Swim animated science-fiction series “Rick and Morty,” a role she has held from 2013 to 2025 across 81 episodes.

Her career includes a range of episodic television appearances in shows such as “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2006), “CSI: NY” (2012), “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” (2013), and “Grey’s Anatomy” (2017). She also appeared in the TV series “Graves” (2017) for nine episodes and “Tell Me a Story” (2018-2019) for six episodes. More recently, she has lent her voice to other animated projects like “Solar Opposites” (2022-2023) and “The Barbarian and the Troll” (2021). Grammer has also expanded her involvement in the industry through producing and directing, with credits such as being a producer for the short film “Confetti” (2024), where she also served as director, and producer for the short film “Tiger Cub” (2018).
