Avery Antonio Bradley Jr. was born on November 26, 1990, in Tacoma, Washington, and developed into a highly-rated high school basketball player. He was ranked No. 1 nationally by ESPNU and No. 4 by Rivals.com in the class of 2009. Bradley led Findlay College Prep to the National High School Basketball championship and was named National High School Basketball Player of the Year by Parade Magazine. He also participated in the 2009 McDonald’s All-American Game, where he won the Dunk Contest. After a single season at the University of Texas at Austin, where he averaged 11.6 points and was recognized on the Big 12 All-Rookie Team, Bradley declared for the NBA Draft in 2010.
Bradley was drafted 19th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2010 NBA Draft. Early in his career, he spent time with the Maine Red Claws in the NBA Development League and Hapoel Jerusalem in the Israeli Basketball Premier League during the 2011 NBA lockout. Upon his return to the Celtics, Bradley established himself as a prominent defensive player, earning NBA All-Defensive Second Team honors in 2013 and NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2016. He spent seven seasons with the Celtics, during which he steadily increased his scoring and played significant minutes, leading the team in minutes and points in the 2014-15 season. His career involved stints with the Detroit Pistons (2017–2018), Los Angeles Clippers (2018–2019), Memphis Grizzlies (2019), Miami Heat (2020–2021), and Houston Rockets (2021).
Notably, Bradley was a member of the Los Angeles Lakers team that won the 2020 NBA Finals. Although he opted out of the NBA restart due to family concerns, he received a championship ring for his contributions during the regular season. Throughout his professional career, Bradley was recognized for his intense defensive style, often tasked with guarding perimeter opponents. In early 2022, he returned to the Los Angeles Lakers. On April 16, 2024, Bradley transitioned from playing to an executive role, being named Vice President of Player Development for the Utah Jazz, culminating over a decade of dedicated service in the NBA.
