During his collegiate career at Clarion University, Abdurakhmonov achieved significant success, earning a 38-12 overall record at 165 pounds in 2011, which included first place at PSACs and third at EWLs. After graduating with a degree in sports management, he briefly served as a volunteer coach at Harvard University. Abdurakhmonov has represented Uzbekistan with distinction in numerous international wrestling competitions. He earned two World bronze medals in 2014 and 2018, complementing his two gold medals at the Asian Games in 2014 and 2018.
His record further includes two gold medals at the Asian Championships in 2015 and 2017. Additionally, he secured a gold medal at the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in 2017 and bronze medals at the Islamic Solidarity Games in both 2017 and 2021, consistently demonstrating his prowess on the global stage. His Olympic career includes a fifth-place finish at the Rio 2016 Olympics and a notable bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo in the men’s 74 kg category. Beyond his exceptional wrestling achievements, Abdurakhmonov has also showcased his versatility in mixed martial arts, maintaining an undefeated professional record of 7-0.
His MMA record impressively features three wins by knockout, three by submission, and one by decision, highlighting his diverse combat skills. In 2024, Abdurakhmonov continued his competitive success by earning a bronze medal at the Ivan Yarygin Cup. Most recently, he secured his quota place for the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris through the 2024 Asian Wrestling Olympic Qualification Tournament, marking his third consecutive Olympic appearance.
