About

Born Belinda Marie Macadengdeng Batumbakal on February 9, 1997, in Pangasinan, Philippines, Bella Poarch began her life with early challenges, living in the slums with her grandmother until age three before being adopted. Her adoptive father, an American military veteran, and her Filipina adoptive mother met in Saudi Arabia before settling in the Philippines. Poarch experienced a challenging childhood marked by abuse, which she has openly discussed. At 13, her family relocated to San Francisco and then to Texas. Demonstrating a commitment to service, Poarch enlisted in the United States Navy in 2017 as an aviation ordnanceman, serving for three years with deployments in Japan and Hawaii.

Poarch began her rise to public prominence in January 2020 by creating a TikTok account, where she initially shared gaming and cosplay content. Her career significantly advanced in August 2020 when a lip-sync video to Millie B’s “M to the B” went viral, becoming the most-liked video on the platform. This success led to her becoming the fourth most-followed individual on TikTok and the most followed person from the Philippines. Capitalizing on her widespread digital reach, she launched a YouTube channel and Twitter page, expanding her presence across social media.

Transitioning into the music industry, Poarch signed a record deal with Warner Records in May 2021. Her debut single, “Build a Bitch,” released in the same month, peaked at 56 on the Billboard Hot 100, earned RIAA platinum certification, and shattered YouTube records for a debut artist with over 75 million views in its first week. The song drew inspiration from her experiences with bullying. Her debut extended play, “Dolls,” was released in August 2022, featuring collaborations with artists like Grimes and Sub Urban, and was critically praised for its dark pop aesthetic. In 2022, she was recognized on Forbes 30 Under 30 for Social Media. Her musical journey continued with successful singles such as “Inferno” and “Crush” with Lauv.
