Bartolo Colon

Bartolo Colon has transitioned from a professional baseball pitcher to a legendary figure known for his longevity and distinctive playing style. After being named the Carolina League’s Pitcher of the Year in 1995 for his outstanding performance with Kinston, Bartolo Colon went on to become one of Major League Baseball’s most enduring and decorated pitchers. In 1995, he led the league with 152 strikeouts and finished second with 13 wins and a 1.96 ERA. That same year, he was recognized as the Cleveland Indians’ Minor League Player of the Year, receiving the ‘Lou Boudreau Award.’ Having signed with the Cleveland Indians as an amateur free agent in 1993, Colon made his Major League Baseball debut with the team on April 4, 1997.

Demonstrating his enduring passion for the sport, Colon continued to play professionally, signing with Acereros de Monclova of the Mexican League in 2020. His illustrious professional career, spanning more than two decades, officially concluded on June 2, 2023. Colon retired as the record holder for most career wins by a Latin American-born pitcher and one of the last active players to have played in the 1990s. Known affectionately as ‘Big Sexy,’ a nickname he trademarked for apparel, Bartolo Colon has left an indelible legacy in baseball, celebrated for his unique style, consistent performance as a control pitcher, and approachable demeanor.
