Born on December 20, 1981, in Lewiston, Idaho, Ben Greenfield was homeschooled and completed high school academics at age 15. His early interests included playing the violin, leading a chess club, and fantasy fiction reading and writing, with his introduction to sports ignited by a tennis court built at his home. He later played collegiate tennis at Lewis–Clark State College and graduated from the University of Idaho with a focus on exercise physiology and biomechanics. His academic career included an internship at Duke University, working with the Kansas City Chiefs of the National Football League. These formative experiences laid the groundwork for his extensive career in health and human performance.
Greenfield holds multiple certifications, including Sports Nutrition from the International Society of Sports Nutrition, Advanced Bicycle Fitting from Serotta, and Strength and Conditioning, and Personal Training from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), which recognized him as its Personal Trainer of the Year in 2008. His athletic career is notable, featuring participation in 13 Ironman competitions, over 120 races, and achieving USA Triathlon top-ranked status in his age group. He began competing in Spartan races in 2010, ultimately participating in 46 races between 2014 and 2019, including the 2017 Reebok Spartan Race World Championship. His focus shifted significantly towards biohacking during the 2011 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon, leading to the release of his downloadable fitness program, “Triathlon Dominator,” the same year. He also won the International Triathlon Union Long Distance Triathlon World Championships for Men 30-34.
Beyond athletics, Greenfield has authored numerous books, including “Beyond Training: Mastering Endurance, Health & Life,” a New York Times best seller, and “Boundless,” which appeared on Publishers Weekly’s Adult Bestsellers list in 2020. He is a prolific public speaker, delivering a TEDxCoeurdalene talk in 2019 titled “Bio Hacking or Ancient Ways of Living?” He hosts the Boundless Life Podcast (formerly the Ben Greenfield Life Podcast), which has featured notable guests like Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey. Greenfield is also the co-founder of KION, a nutritional supplements company, and an advisor and board member for several health and fitness industry corporations. In June 2025, he was appointed as a strategic advisor to Gurner Group’s Saint Haven and SAINT private health clubs, tasked with developing anti-aging protocols.
