Red Sox pitcher Kenley Jansen was given custom Jordan 1s with a Louis Vuitton lock-and-key to celebrate the 400th save of his career.
Kenley Geronimo Jansen was born on September 30, 1987, in Willemstad, Curaçao. He began his professional baseball career in 2004 as an undrafted free agent catcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers organization. After several seasons in the minor leagues, where his offensive performance as a catcher was limited, Jansen made a pivotal career change in 2009, converting to a relief pitcher. This transition, guided by former major leaguer Charlie Hough, proved to be highly successful and marked the beginning of his rise in professional baseball. He made his MLB debut with the Dodgers on July 24, 2010.
Jansen quickly developed into a dominant closer, known for his cut fastball and high strikeout rates. Over his career, he has achieved numerous milestones, including becoming the Dodgers’ all-time saves leader and one of only seven pitchers in MLB history to record 400 career saves. He has been recognized with multiple All-Star selections and two Trevor Hoffman NL Reliever of the Year awards. Jansen has played for several prominent MLB teams, including the Los Angeles Dodgers (2010–2021), Atlanta Braves (2022), Boston Red Sox (2023–2024), and most recently, the Los Angeles Angels (2025–present). He has also represented the Netherlands national baseball team in three World Baseball Classics.
Throughout his career, Jansen has maintained a strong presence in the league, consistently performing at a high level. His dedication to his craft led to a significant career progression from a minor league catcher to an elite relief pitcher. Jansen has also founded the Kenley Jansen Foundation, which supports families with seriously ill and chronically ill children. His commitment extends beyond the field, as evidenced by his community involvement and his role as a mentor to younger players.
