Ben Youngs

Benjamin Ryder Youngs was born on September 5, 1989, in Aylsham, Norfolk, England. His early life was influenced by rugby, with both his older brother, Tom Youngs, and his father, Nick Youngs, having played the sport professionally. Youngs joined the Leicester Tigers academy, following in his brother’s footsteps, and made history by becoming Leicester’s youngest Premiership player at the age of 17 in April 2007. He quickly established himself within the club, contributing to multiple Premiership titles and earning recognition as the Players’ Player of the Season for 2009/10.

Youngs’ international career began with his England debut in March 2010. He went on to represent England in four Rugby World Cups (2011, 2015, 2019, 2023) and became England’s most-capped men’s player with 127 appearances. A significant milestone in his international career was starting in the 2019 Rugby World Cup Final. He also toured Australia with the British & Irish Lions in 2013, making two capped appearances, including starting alongside his brother Tom in the second test. Youngs’ career also saw him secure multiple Six Nations Championship victories with England, including a Grand Slam in 2016.

After a career spanning 20 years with Leicester Tigers and numerous international campaigns, Youngs announced his retirement from professional rugby at the end of the 2024–25 season. During his time, he achieved five Premiership Rugby titles with Leicester Tigers (2007, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2022) and played a crucial role in the club’s success. He also overcame a personal health challenge in 2024, undergoing open heart surgery. His memoir, released recently, offers a reflection on his career and the dedication required in professional sport.
