About

Derek Haskins, known as Big D, originally from Cookeville, Tennessee, and Sean Powell, known as Bubba, who grew up in Houma, Louisiana, began their radio partnership on December 16, 1996, at WXCT (now WTGE) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Both started in radio at the age of 14. Their collaboration quickly gained attention, leading to a deal with AMFM Broadcasting (then owner of WYNK) in February 1999 to host mornings and syndicate their show nationally. This marked a significant milestone as no country morning show had achieved sustained national syndication before. Following AMFM Broadcasting’s acquisition by Clear Channel Communications in March 1999, Patrick Thomas was hired as executive producer, remaining with the show until 2023.

The Big D & Bubba Show began national syndication on December 6, 1999, through KMML-FM in Amarillo, Texas. The show’s reach gradually expanded, and by summer 2003, it was broadcast on 14 radio stations. In fall 2003, Clear Channel Communications relocated Big D and Bubba to Nashville, Tennessee, where their show was based at WSIX-FM. In September 2005, they signed a syndication deal with Premiere Radio Networks. On November 22, 2011, Big D and Bubba concluded their local broadcast on WSIX to focus entirely on their syndicated program, which led to their departure from corporate radio.

In September 2013, Big D and Bubba established their own production company, Silverfish Media, and partnered with Compass Media Networks for syndication, advertising, and affiliate licensing. The show expanded its team in January 2016 with Jessica “Carsen” Humphreville joining as the first female cast member, eventually becoming Director of Operations & Programming for Silverfish Media. Garrett Freche joined in 2022 as Digital Content Director, and Jonathan Shaffer became Executive Producer in June 2023. Their show, known for comedy, entertainment, and lifestyle discussions, continues to air on over 100+ country music FM radio stations, broadcast globally via the American Forces Network, and is available through their dedicated app and popular podcast.
