The third-oldest of the famous Baldwin brothers, Billy Baldwin has done more than enough to establish himself as a major actor in his own right. He has been appearing in films and TV shows for over thirty years, with starring roles in the likes of Flatliners, Backdraft, and Dirty Sexy Money. More recently, he has produced and starred in Northern Rescue, a Canadian drama series about a widowed search-and-rescue commander who relocates from Boston to his childhood home of Turtle Island Bay.
Baldwin himself was born in New York. Acting was not initially among his hobbies or jobs; he was a varsity wrestler at university and then a model for Calvin Klein. He began acting in his mid-twenties and landed his first starring role in an ABC TV film, The Preppie Murder, in 1989. His first major film role came the following year with Internal Affairs, a crime thriller also starring Richard Gere. Starring roles became something of a habit over the next few years, as he appeared in the likes of Flatliners, Backdraft, Sliver, Virus, and Fair Game. His part in the 2005 indie film The Squid and the Whale saw him co-awarded the Gotham Independent Film Award for Best Ensemble Performance.
Since the 2000s, Baldwin has covered a wide variety of roles, from romcoms such as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, to teen dramas such as Gossip Girl to acclaimed series such as 30 Rock. Among his most recent work is Northern Rescue (also his first multi-episode production role) and Too Old to Die Young, a crime noir drama web series that, like Northern Rescue, follows a grieving man, albeit in a much darker way.
