About

Billy Boyd was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1968. He developed an early interest in acting after being inspired by Star Wars, participating in a school production of Oliver Twist at age 10. Despite early personal challenges, including the loss of his parents at age 12, he pursued his passion for performance. He initially worked as a bookbinder for six years, even binding copies of “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, before enrolling at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama to earn his bachelor of arts degree. During his drama school years, he gained television experience with minor roles in series such as “Down Amongst The Boys” and “Taggart.” Following graduation, Boyd performed in various plays, including ‘The Slab Boys’ and ‘The Diary of Adrian Mole’, securing his first paying acting engagements.

His career significantly advanced when he was cast as Peregrin “Pippin” Took in Peter Jackson’s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, released between 2001 and 2003. This role brought him international recognition and led to other notable film appearances, including Barret Bonden in “Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World” (2003) and the voice roles of Glen and Glenda in “Seed of Chucky” (2004), a role he reprised in the “Chucky” television series in 2022. Beyond acting, Boyd is the frontman for the band Beecake, which has released albums like “Soul Swimming” and EPs such as “Please Stay” and “Just B.” He also wrote and performed “The Edge of Night” for “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” and “The Last Goodbye” for “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” (2014), highlighting his musical contributions to these major film series.

Boyd’s career demonstrates a consistent trajectory of diverse engagement across film, television, and music. His work spans from early stage and television roles to globally recognized performances in fantasy epics and horror franchises, alongside his sustained commitment to music. He actively engages with fans through events and his podcast, “The Friendship Onion,” co-hosted with Dominic Monaghan. Boyd’s career is marked by notable achievements in both acting and music, maintaining his artistic pursuits consistently.
