About

Robert Perry Golic, born on October 26, 1957, in Cleveland, Ohio, established himself early on as a talented athlete. He excelled in both football and wrestling during his high school years at St. Joseph’s in Cleveland, winning the Ohio high school heavyweight wrestling championship in 1975. This dual-sport proficiency continued into his college career at the University of Notre Dame, where he played for the Fighting Irish football team from 1975 to 1978. During his time at Notre Dame, Golic was part of the 1977 NCAA national championship football team and earned unanimous first-team All-American honors in 1978. In collegiate wrestling, he achieved All-American status twice, placing fourth in the 1977 NCAA tournament and third in 1978.

Following his distinguished college career, Golic was drafted by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft as a linebacker. He played for the Patriots from 1979 to 1981 before joining the Cleveland Browns in 1982, where he transitioned to nose tackle. His period with the Browns marked a significant phase of his professional football career, earning him three Pro Bowl selections from 1985 to 1987. After seven seasons with the Browns, Golic moved to the Los Angeles Raiders through Plan B Free Agency, playing his final four NFL seasons there until 1992, completing a 14-season professional football career.

After retiring from the NFL, Golic diversified his career into acting, television, and radio. He appeared in various roles, including Mike Rogers in “Saved by the Bell: The College Years” and “Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas.” He hosted sports talk radio programs, provided NFL commentary for Channel 4 in Britain, served as an analyst for NBC’s NFL coverage (1994-1996), and was a commentator for TNN’s XFL coverage in 2001. Returning to Northeast Ohio in 2004, Golic hosted a drive-time radio talk show on WNIR 100.1 FM in Akron and worked as a football analyst for WOIO Channel 19 in Cleveland. He also ventured into the restaurant business, opening “Bob Golic’s Sports Bar & Grille” in downtown Cleveland, which operated until 2014. Additionally, he served as Vice President of Football Operations for the Cleveland Crush of the Lingerie Football League.
