Anna Shcherbakova was born on March 28, 2004, in Moscow, Russia. She began figure skating at the age of three in 2007, joining the Khrustalnyi rink of the Olympic Reserve Sports School No. 37. Her talent and dedication were evident early on, leading her to train under esteemed coaches Eteri Tutberidze and Sergei Dudakov from November 2013. In mid-July 2017, a broken leg during a triple loop attempt sidelined her for much of the 2017–18 season, but she returned to competitions with renewed focus, demonstrating her resilience and commitment to the sport.
Shcherbakova’s career gained significant momentum with her international junior debut in 2018, where she earned gold medals at the JGP Slovakia and JGP Canada events. In October 2018, she made history as the first woman to land a quad Lutz in a domestic event. Her senior international debut at the 2019 Lombardia Trophy saw her become the first senior woman to land a quad Lutz in competition, securing a gold medal. She continued to break new ground at the 2019 Skate America, becoming the first woman to land two quad Lutz jumps and a quad Lutz-triple toe loop combination in an international competition. These achievements propelled her to become a three-time Russian national champion (2019–2021), the 2021 World champion, and the 2022 European champion. Her career culminated in an Olympic gold medal at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, where she was the first Olympic champion in women’s single skating to perform quad jumps. Despite injuries and illnesses in subsequent seasons, Shcherbakova has remained a significant figure in figure skating, also transitioning into roles such as a television host and brand ambassador, further solidifying her public profile.
Beyond her competitive achievements, Shcherbakova is recognized for her consistent performance quality, musicality, and dramatic interpretations. Her ability to execute complex quad jumps, particularly the quad Lutz and quad flip, has played a pivotal role in advancing women’s figure skating.
