Janet Leung’s career in softball began in 2013 with her first appearance for Team Canada as part of the Junior Women’s National Team at the WBSC Junior Women’s World Championships. Following this, she participated in national team selection camps in 2014 and 2015, leading to her debut with the Senior National Team in 2016 at the Japan Cup. In 2018, she contributed to Canada securing a bronze medal at the WBSC Women’s Softball World Championship in Chiba, Japan. Her international career continued to advance in 2019, where she earned a silver medal at her first Pan American Games in Lima. Shortly after, she played a pivotal role in Canada qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics by recording six hits and driving in six runs at the WBSC Americas Olympic Qualifier in Surrey, B.C.
Leung achieved a significant milestone in her career during her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020, where she recorded two hits and scored two runs, contributing to Canada’s bronze medal win. Her collegiate career at Brown University saw her play four seasons, starting all 151 games. She concluded her time at Brown ranked third all-time in at-bats with 493 and fifth in doubles with 35. Over her collegiate career, she maintained a .304 batting average, accumulating 150 hits, 35 doubles, 79 runs, and 52 RBIs. She was recognized with All-Ivy honors in all four years she played. In 2024, Leung continued her international success by representing Canada at the Women’s Softball World Cup and securing another bronze medal.
Off the field, Janet Leung graduated from Brown University in 2016 with a concentration in Business Entrepreneurship – Biotechnology. She has expressed interest in pursuing a career in marketing within the sporting goods industry. In addition to her athletic achievements, Leung enjoys playing volleyball, practicing brush calligraphy, and playing the guitar, and collects or exchanges pins at tournaments.
