Bobby Petrino

Robert Patrick “Bobby” Petrino was born on March 10, 1961, in Lewistown, Montana. He played quarterback at Carroll College, earning NAIA All-America honors twice and leading his team to three conference championships. This early success set the stage for a coaching career marked by offensive innovation and significant team turnarounds. His coaching journey began in 1983 as a graduate assistant at Carroll College, working under his father. He quickly progressed through assistant coaching roles at institutions like Weber State, Idaho, Arizona State, Nevada, and Utah State, where he developed a reputation for high-octane offensive systems. Notably, his 1996 Utah State offense set school records for total offense and passing yards, and his 1998 Louisville offense led the FBS in scoring and total offense.

Petrino’s head coaching career includes stints at Louisville (2003-2006, 2014-2018), the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons (2007), Arkansas (2008-2011), Western Kentucky (2013), and Missouri State (2020-2022). His first tenure at Louisville saw him lead the Cardinals to a 41-9 record, including an 11-win season in 2004 where his team led the nation in total offense (539.0 ypg) and scoring (49.8 ppg). He guided Arkansas to a 34-17 record, including consecutive 10-win seasons in 2010 and 2011, culminating in a Sugar Bowl appearance and a Cotton Bowl victory. His teams have consistently been ranked in the top 10 nationally in various offensive categories, and he has contributed to the development of elite talent, such as 2016 Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson.

After serving as offensive coordinator for Texas A&M in 2023, Petrino returned to the Arkansas Razorbacks as offensive coordinator in November 2023, and was later named interim head coach in September 2025. In his 14 seasons as a head coach across five different institutions, he has accumulated a record of 119-56. Throughout his career, Petrino has proven his ability to build competitive programs and implement effective offensive strategies, evidenced by numerous conference championships and bowl appearances.
