Chase Blackburn

Chase Wyatt Blackburn, born on June 10, 1983, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, has established a notable career in American football, first as a linebacker and now as a coach. He played college football at the University of Akron, where he was a three-year starter, participating in 45 games and accumulating 293 tackles. Blackburn was recognized for his collegiate performance, earning Second-Team All-MAC honors in 2003 and playing in the Gridiron Classic in 2004. He furthered his education at Akron, graduating with a degree in mathematics.

Blackburn’s professional playing career began in 2005 as an undrafted free agent with the New York Giants. Over eight seasons with the Giants, he played a crucial role, contributing to two Super Bowl victories in XLII and XLVI. Notably, he recorded an interception against Tom Brady in Super Bowl XLVI, a significant play in the Giants’ 21-17 victory. He later joined the Carolina Panthers for two seasons (2013-2014), where he continued his role as a linebacker. Throughout his 10-season playing career, he appeared in 132 games, recording 265 tackles, 4.5 sacks, four interceptions, and 123 special teams tackles.

Following his playing career, Blackburn transitioned into coaching. He started as a coaching intern with the Carolina Panthers in 2016, progressing to assistant special teams coach and then special teams coordinator by 2018. During his tenure with the Panthers, his special teams units achieved notable successes, including setting franchise records for field goals and punting efficiency. He then served as the assistant special teams coordinator for the Tennessee Titans in 2022 before being appointed the special teams coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, a position he currently holds. With the Rams, he has continued to lead successful special teams units, with multiple players recognized for their rookie seasons and strong statistical rankings.
