Brandon Gilpin, born on October 21, 1999, in Amityville, New York, began his entertainment career at the age of three with dance lessons. This early exposure fostered an interest in performing, leading him to explore various aspects of entertainment. By tenth grade, he had established a dance party troupe, adopting the moniker “ShowTimeBrando.” His local reputation expanded through performances, collaborations with DJs, and the creation of comedic online skits. This period marked the beginning of his social media presence and engagement with a broader audience.
In November 2015, Gilpin released his first song, “ShowTimeBrando- Ultimate Dance Challenge.” A video of him dancing to the track quickly accumulated over 50,000 views on Facebook within one week. Following this, he was cast on the spot for the role of Trey in the short film “Jumpman.” His first television appearance occurred later that year as a featured extra on “TeenNickTop10.” Gilpin continued to develop his musical career, releasing other songs such as “ShowTimeBrando- Senior Anthem 2k17,” which gained traction after being created for his high school pep rally. He also took on lead theatrical roles, including Usnavi in Lin Manuel Miranda’s “In the Heights.”
Gilpin pursued higher education at Morehouse College in Atlanta, majoring in theater and film. During his studies, he secured a position as a production assistant for the BET series “The Quad,” gaining industry experience under the mentorship of series creator Felicia D. Henderson. His acting career advanced with guest roles in productions such as HBO’s “High Maintenance” (2020), “Blue Bloods” (2021), and the film “Respect” (2021). A significant step in his career was his casting as DJ Neva Scared in the Starz series “P-Valley” (2020-2022), marking his first series regular role. He also joined the cast of “Grown-ish” (2022) as Renard and appeared in “Queer as Folk” (2022) and “Saint X” (2023). Gilpin’s career trajectory reflects consistent engagement across acting, music, and social media.
