About

Juliet Doherty was born on June 10, 1997, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. Her family has a deep history in dance, with her great-grandparents establishing a dance school in 1945. Doherty represents the fourth generation of dancers in her family. Her mother, Krista King-Doherty, was her first dance teacher and noticed her natural talent for ballet at a young age. This early training led her to participate in ballet competitions. Notably, Doherty won gold medals at the Youth America Grand Prix International Finals in 2012 and 2014. The Youth America Grand Prix is the world’s largest non-profit international student ballet competition and scholarship program. These victories secured her scholarships to train at a pre-professional ballet school in San Francisco. By the age of 16, Doherty was dancing with the San Francisco Ballet, where she trained as an apprentice and later accepted a contract as a Trainee.

Doherty’s acting career began with an unexpected opportunity when she was spotted in New York for a short independent film project. At 14, she was cast in the sci-fi short film “The Portal” (2013). This experience introduced her to screen acting while her primary focus remained on ballet. At 18, she was approached by filmmakers for a dance narrative feature film, which led her to consider pursuing acting alongside her dance career. She has since appeared in a number of dance-related films, including “High Strung Free Dance” (2018), “Driven to Dance” (2018), “The Accompanist” (2019), and “The Red Shoes: Next Step” (2023). Her career progression demonstrates a successful integration of her dance expertise into her acting roles, leveraging her extensive background in ballet. Her recent casting in “Ballerina” (2025), a film in the John Wick franchise, indicates a move towards action-oriented roles that also incorporate her physical training, marking a significant turn in her filmography.

Her dedication to her craft is evident through her consistent engagement with acting classes and coaches, treating acting with the same rigor as her dance training. Doherty maintains a strong connection to the dance community, frequently appearing as a guest artist and collaborator with various dance companies such as Ishida Dance Company, Ballet International Gala, and South Dakota Ballet Company. She is also a long-term partner with MDM Dancewear, a collaboration that started when she was fifteen.
