Brandon Mychal Smith

Brandon Mychal Smith began his acting career at the age of 8, securing his first national commercial for Nike alongside Tiger Woods. His early work included roles such as Li’l Danny Dawkins in “Phil of the Future” and a recurring role as Mario in “Unfabulous.” In 2006, he gained recognition for his portrayal of Tayshawn in the Emmy Award-nominated television movie “The Ron Clark Story,” earning a Family Television Award and a Young Artist Award for his performance. He further expanded his film credits with appearances in “Gridiron Gang” alongside Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and “Weapons” with Nick Cannon. Smith’s versatility allowed him to transition between dramatic and comedic roles, establishing a foundation for his career.

Smith solidified his presence in youth entertainment as Nico Harris in the Disney Channel series “Sonny with a Chance” and its spin-off “So Random!” during 2009-2012, accumulating a dedicated fanbase. He also starred in the 2010 Disney Channel Original Movie “Starstruck,” for which he performed the song “Party Up.” His career progressed with notable roles in television series such as “You’re the Worst,” where he played Sam Dresden from 2014 to 2019, and the Hulu series “Four Weddings and a Funeral” in 2019, where he was a series regular. On the big screen, he took on the iconic role of Little Richard in the 2014 Universal feature film “Get On Up,” working with director Tate Taylor and co-starring Chadwick Boseman. He also appeared in “Dirty Grandpa” (2016) and “The Most Hated Woman in America” (2017).

More recently, Smith has ventured into voice acting, notably as Mikey (Michelangelo) in the Nickelodeon animated series “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” from 2018 to 2020, a role he reprised in “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie” (2022). His recent film projects include “Horror Noire” (2021), “Appendage” (2023), and “Sick Girl” (2023). Beyond acting, Smith has engaged in music, producing Maxrank’s track “Winna Girl” and collaborating on singles like “Everything” and “Zombie (Emo).” His career demonstrates continued engagement across various platforms and genres, maintaining a consistent presence in the entertainment industry.
