Brian Thomas Smith was born on May 13, 1977, in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Lafayette High School in Wildwood, where he played basketball, and later graduated from the University of Central Missouri. Smith began his career in entertainment by appearing in over 100 commercials for prominent brands, which included Miller Lite, Pizza Hut, Burger King, State Farm, Chevrolet, Carl’s Jr., Coors Light, Budweiser, Taco Bell, DirecTV, Pop Chips, Buffalo Wild Wings, Honda, Corona, Applebee’s, Dairy Queen, Audi, and Progressive Insurance. In 2005, he gained broader recognition as a contestant on the reality television competition series ‘The Amazing Race 7’ alongside his brother, Greg, where they finished in sixth place. That same year, he starred in a Heineken beer commercial with Jennifer Aniston, which was aired internationally.
Smith’s acting career expanded significantly with his recurring role as Zack Johnson in “The Big Bang Theory,” appearing in 11 episodes between 2010 and 2019. He also starred in Dan Fogelman’s directorial debut film, “Danny Collins” (2015), opposite Al Pacino and Annette Bening. His television appearances include roles in “Fear Factor,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Happy Endings,” “The Neighborhood,” “9-1-1: Lone Star,” and “United States of Al.” In 2021, he took on a recurring role as Freddy in “United States of Al,” playing the new boyfriend of Riley’s ex-wife, Vanessa. Smith has also featured in various films such as “Lethal Seduction,” “Babysplitters,” “The Wedding Party,” “Concrete Blondes,” and “Holiday Twist” (2023). He continues to be active in television, with recent guest-starring roles in “NCIS” (2022), “Shrinking” (2024), “Bad Monkey” (2024), and “The Really Loud House” (2022-2024).
