Brodie Merrill

Brodie Merrill is a highly acclaimed professional lacrosse player, recognized for his contributions to the sport as a defenseman and long stick midfielder. After a distinguished collegiate career at Georgetown University, Brodie Merrill was a two-time First-team All-American (2004, 2005), earning the Schmeisser Award for Defensive Player of the Year in 2005 and collecting a university record 250 ground balls. His professional journey began in 2005 as the first overall pick in the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Draft by the Portland LumberJax. That same year, Merrill was named Major League Lacrosse (MLL) Rookie of the Year with the Baltimore Bayhawks.

In 2006, he secured both NLL Rookie of the Year and NLL Defensive Player of the Year honors, alongside a World Lacrosse Championship Gold Medal, Best Defenseman, and All World Team selection. Merrill continued his NLL ascent, earning multiple All-Star selections and three Transition Player of the Year awards (2009, 2010, 2017). His NLL career included impactful stints with the Edmonton Rush, Philadelphia Wings, and Toronto Rock (captain 2017). He later joined the San Diego Seals as captain in 2018, playing under Head Coach Patrick Merrill, and was instrumental in winning back-to-back Mann Cup Championships (2008, 2009).

The Premier Lacrosse League honored his revolutionary influence on the Long Stick Midfielder position by naming its award for the league’s top LSM after him. Merrill’s extraordinary career culminates with his induction into the Lacrosse Museum and National Hall of Fame in 2024.
