Tucker Durkin, born on September 5, 1990, in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, established himself as a prominent figure in professional lacrosse. He attended LaSalle College High School and later played collegiately at Johns Hopkins University, where he began his noteworthy career. During his time at Johns Hopkins from 2010 to 2013, Durkin started all 59 games, accumulating 127 ground balls and causing 65 turnovers. He received the William C. Schmeisser Award as the nation’s top defenseman in both 2012 and 2013, becoming only the eighth player in college lacrosse history to achieve this distinction twice. Durkin was also a two-time First Team All-American (2012, 2013) and a Second Team All-American (2011). In 2024, his contributions to collegiate lacrosse were recognized with his induction into the Johns Hopkins Athletics Hall of Fame.
Durkin’s professional career began in 2013 when he was drafted third overall by the Hamilton Nationals in the Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft. He quickly made an impact, being named an All-MLL Defenseman in his rookie year. Throughout his MLL career with teams like the Florida Launch, he earned multiple accolades, including three MLL All-Star selections (2014, 2016, 2018) and the MLL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2017. He was also a six-time 1st Team MLL All-Pro (2013-2018). Internationally, Durkin represented the United States men’s national lacrosse team twice, contributing to a silver medal at the 2014 World Lacrosse Championship, where he was named Most Outstanding Defender and to the All-World Team, and a gold medal at the 2018 World Lacrosse Championship.
Transitioning to the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) in 2019 with the Atlas Lacrosse Club, Durkin continued to excel, earning PLL All-Star honors (2019, 2021, 2022) and a 1st Team PLL All-Pro selection in 2019. He concluded his playing career after the 2023 season. Beyond playing, Durkin has also contributed to the sport as a coach, serving as the head coach for Bryn Athyn College from 2016 to 2019, leading them to a North Eastern Athletic Conference championship in 2018. He was appointed defensive coordinator for the Drexel Dragons men’s lacrosse team on July 15, 2019, a role he continues to hold. Durkin announced his retirement from professional lacrosse on March 13, 2024, stating his intention to focus on his coaching career.
