Brother Luck

Brother Luck, born Brother Marcellus Haywood Luck IV in San Francisco, developed his culinary skills from a young age. His father passed away when he was ten, and he and his younger brother were raised by their mother. He began working in professional kitchens at 14 and earned several culinary scholarships and competition awards during high school. When he was 16, his mother was incarcerated, leading him to take on the responsibility of raising his brother. Luck pursued further education at Metro Tech High School before attending The Art Institute of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona. He later achieved certification as an Executive Chef through the American Culinary Federation. Following his culinary education, Luck broadened his experience by working in various restaurants, including Takitei and Kinjhoro Ryokans in Kanazawa, Japan. He eventually became the owner of Brother Luck Street Eats in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and also owns Lucky Dumplings in the same city. Luck has gained recognition through his appearances on competitive cooking shows. In 2016, he won on Food Network’s “Beat Bobby Flay.” He also competed on season 31 of “Chopped,” “Top Chef: Colorado,” and “Top Chef: Kentucky.” In 2017, he opened Four by Brother Luck, expanding his culinary footprint. He has also been nominated for a James Beard Award.
