Bruce Boxleitner is a multi-award-winning, leading American actor much loved by sci-fi fans thanks to his starring roles in Tron, Tron: Legacy, and Babylon 5. He also appeared in series such as How the West Was Won, Scarecrow and Mrs King, Cedar Cove, and Supergirl. Now almost half a century into his professional career, he is still going strong with regular roles in the likes of Matchmaker Mysteries and The Orville. His sci-fi novels, Frontier Earth and Searching were published in 1999 and 2001 respectively.
Born in Elgin, Illinois, in 1950, Boxleitner’s first major role was as Luke Macahan in How the West Was Won, a Western drama series that found a devoted audience in Europe and was still being rerun long after its last episode first aired in 1979. His first major endeavour into sci-fi came with playing Alan Bradley, Jeff Bridges’ sidekick in Tron, a cult 1982 film that spawned an equally cult follow-up, Tron: Legacy in 2010. Boxleitner also voiced the title character in the 2010s TV spin-off, Tron: Uprising.
In 1994, Boxleitner joined the cast of sci-fi “space opera” Babylon 5 as Captain John Sheridan. The role won him two consecutive Sci-Fi Universe Magazine Awards for Best Actor in a Genre TV Series. In 2018, he was still appearing in lauded series, playing President Baker in the critically acclaimed CW series, Supergirl. He has also appeared in a diverse number of series, including Heroes, GCB, and 30 episodes of the Hallmark adaptation of Debbie Macomber’s romance novel series, Cedar Cove.
