Byron Leftwich

Byron Antron Leftwich, born on January 14, 1980, in Washington, D.C., established himself as a prominent figure in Football through his capabilities as a quarterback and later as a coach. His journey began at Marshall University, where he received MAC Most Valuable Player honors twice in 2001 and 2002, and was also recognized as MAC Offensive Player of the Year in the same years. He gained significant attention for his resilience, notably playing through a broken shin during a collegiate game. Leftwich concluded his college career with 11,903 passing yards, 89 touchdowns, and 28 interceptions, demonstrating his potential for the professional stage.

Leftwich was selected seventh overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the 2003 NFL Draft, a testament to his collegiate performance. He served as the Jaguars’ starting quarterback for four seasons (2003-2006). Following his time with the Jaguars, he played for the Atlanta Falcons (2007), Pittsburgh Steelers (2008, 2010-2012), and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2009). A significant achievement during his playing career was winning Super Bowl XLIII with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2008 as a backup quarterback.

After retiring as a player, Leftwich transitioned to coaching, starting as a coaching intern with the Arizona Cardinals in 2016, where he also served as quarterbacks coach (2017-2018) and interim offensive coordinator (2018). His coaching career reached a pinnacle during his tenure as offensive coordinator for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2019 to 2022. Under his guidance, the Buccaneers’ offense, featuring quarterback Tom Brady, secured a Super Bowl LV victory in 2021. In March 2025, Leftwich took on a new role as an assistant coach at the University of Colorado.
