About

Camila Alves McConaughey was born on January 28, 1982, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Brazil. She spent her early years in Itambacuri, Minas Gerais, with her artist and designer mother and ranch owner father, before moving to Los Angeles at the age of 15. In Los Angeles, she worked as a house cleaner and waitress, which helped her become fluent in English. After four years, she decided to make the United States her permanent home. At 19, Alves relocated to New York City to pursue a career in fashion modeling. She achieved significant recognition, appearing on the covers of notable magazines such as Ocean Drive, the Brazilian edition of Men’s Vogue, ES Magazine, and Maxim. Alves also walked runways for fashion houses like Valentino, Carolina Herrera, Mango, and The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection.

Her career expanded beyond modeling into design and media. Collaborating with her mother, Alves co-designed Muxo, a line of handcrafted handbags. In 2010, her presence in entertainment grew when she hosted the third season of the Bravo reality television series “Shear Genius.” The year 2012 marked another milestone as she became the new face for Macy’s clothing line I.N.C. International Concepts. Alves launched her lifestyle website, Women of Today, in January 2016, which features her social media, a livestream video program “Camila’s Code,” and blog content ranging from food to family life. She also co-founded Yummy Spoonfuls, an organic food company for babies and toddlers, which launched its product line in Target in 2016.

Continuing her work in media, Alves co-hosted the Food Network’s “Kids BBQ Championship” in 2016. In March 2022, her children’s book, “Just Try One Bite,” co-written with Adam Mansbach, became a New York Times Best Seller. She became a U.S. citizen in 2015. Alves, alongside her husband Matthew McConaughey, established the Just Keep Livin’ Foundation in 2010, focusing on philanthropic initiatives. In 2020, they distributed over 100,000 face masks to hospitals in Texas during the coronavirus pandemic, demonstrating a commitment to community support.
