Carol Kane has established herself as a versatile American actress and comedian, acclaimed for her roles in film, television, and stage productions over a career spanning more than five decades. After making her professional theater debut at the age of 14 in a 1966 production of ‘The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie’ alongside Tammy Grimes, Carol Kane went on to establish herself as a versatile American actress and comedian, acclaimed for her roles in film, television, and stage productions. Her early on-screen career began in 1971 with minor roles in films such as Desperate Characters and Carnal Knowledge, quickly securing her first leading role in the 1972 Canadian film Wedding in White as Jeannie Dougall. Kane’s critically acclaimed performance in the 1975 independent film Hester Street earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, a significant early career milestone.

That same year, she also appeared in Sidney Lumet’s highly regarded Dog Day Afternoon. From 1980 to 1983, Kane achieved widespread recognition for her memorable portrayal of Simka Dahblitz-Gravas on the acclaimed television series Taxi. Her work on the show garnered her two Emmy Awards in 1982 and 1983, along with a Golden Globe nomination in 1983. She continued to build a distinguished career in both comedic and dramatic roles across film, including her iconic performance as Valerie in the beloved 1987 film The Princess Bride and as the Ghost of Christmas Present in 1988’s Scrooged.

In 2024, she received further critical acclaim for her performance in Between the Temples, earning the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress. For the same role, she was also nominated for Best Supporting Performance at the Independent Spirit Awards in 2024.
