A freestyle skier from Canada, Cassie Sharpe earned gold in the women’s halfpipe at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. She won a silver medal in the halfpipe event at the 2015 World Championships in Kreischberg, and in 2016 and 2018, she won gold and bronze respectively in the superpipe event at the Winter X Games.
Sharpe won the first halfpipe competition of the 2017–18 World Cup at Cardrona, New Zealand. She would go on to win gold at the Dew Tour as well as in Snowmass, Colorado. In her debut Olympic competition, the 2018 Winter Games, Sharpe would improve on this achievement. To compete in the halfpipe final, Sharpe qualified first overall. Her third run was a victory lap; her previous two runs would have both placed her first on the podium. She attributed daily practise with helping her prepare for the Olympics.
Sharpe won the gold medal at the World Cup final in Tignes, earning the Crystal Globe for the women’s halfpipe season. She said that she was incredibly happy with how the year turned out, and that although every competition presented a unique challenge in and of itself, she was thrilled to have won the year as a whole. Sharpe was selected for Canada’s 2022 Olympic team on January 24, 2022. She ultimately took home the silver in the women’s halfpipe competition.
